Band You Should Know (Biblically?) – Writer
I got these email that said really big at the top – WRITER.
I thought they were addressing me. Turns out that they were introducing themselves. The band is called Writer and they’re from San Deigo. They have a new 7-song (EP?) album, Blood Drops, and it’s startlingly good. Reminds me of a lot of things – Guided By Voices, Grandaddy – plenty of others. I think they’re totally worthy of your listen. You can buy the album from their website – www.writertheband.com. The title track, “Blood Drops” is superb. Better try and write something they can put in their press kit…
Writer is the kind of band that sneaks up behind you and follows you to school for six miles through a snow storm, quietly serenading you like like madmen at play. At first you’re afraid to listen, but something grabs you and pries your eyelids open Clockwork Orange style. Your eyes start to burn and everything washes out in a white blur. There’s a silhouette. The guitars swell, the drums reek havoc on your nervous system… drip… drip… tiny red specks appear on your cheek. Blood drops. It’s too late – you’re one of them now. All is well.
